FAQs
Is this a drop off program?
Root & Reason is not a drop off program.

Is this a secular program or religious in nature?
We are a Christian program.

Is this program for elementary only?
No - our program can accommodate K-12. If your student is in high school and needs particular credits, it is always possible that our community at the time may not have what you require based on the grade of your student. Please submit an inquiry and we will gladly let you know if we can fulfill what your needs may be!

Do parents have to help out and volunteer?
Yes! Parents are the magic behind our wonderful community. We understand that not everyone has the gift or desire to teach and that is ok. While we offer training and all needed materials for those who desire to teach, there are many other roles to fill. Whether you enjoy teaching or prefer to be more "behind the scenes", we will have a way for you to serve and pour into the community.

Is this program expensive?
Our goal is to make high quality classical education accessible and affordable for families. We carefully set tuition to reflect true value without compromising excellence. Contact us, and we'll provide your tuition total based on your family's programs.

Is this different from other classical programs?
There are many wonderful programs that share a classical and Christian foundation, and we’re truly encouraged by this growing movement. We believe deeply in this approach to education as a means of cultivating thoughtful leaders and lifelong learners. Here in Frederick, Maryland, families are blessed with several classical options that share similar philosophies. However, Root & Reason Classical stands apart in one key way: we view our curriculum not as the ultimate goal, but as a purposeful tool; a means to a greater end. Our aim is to maintain a healthy balance between consistent, high-quality instruction and the flexibility to adapt with wisdom and collaboration. We value excellence, but we also value the discernment and partnership of parents, ensuring that our program serves families rather than the other way around.

Can my baby come with me to co-op?
Absolutely! We have childcare on campus or you are more than welcome to bring your baby in class. If needed, you can walk your baby around the church or the grounds outside as needed. We love babies!

Why is an interview a part of the enrollment process?
It's not an "interview" like a test. It is just a chance to chat and learn about what your family's needs are, what you are looking for in a co-op, and our opportunity to show you what we are all about. We also know that for those new to homeschooling, you may not even know what questions to ask. At Root & Reason, we want families to be informed and excited to join us and we want to make sure that what we are offering will be what your family is looking for.

I'm looking to make friends and for my kids to make friends. Is Root & Reason a boring group?
If you are looking for excellent academics, we have you covered. If you are looking for an incredible group of people who love to have fun together and show up for each other when life happens, that is the core of what we are about. We can't wait to meet you!

Statement of Faith
GOD
We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matt 28:19-20, 2 Cor 13:14)

BIBLE
We believe that the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God, the final authority for faith and life. (2 Tim 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21; John 1:1–14)

JESUS CHRIST
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ: His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension, and future return in glory. (Heb 1:3)

HUMANITY
We believe that all people are created in the image of God, male and female, in His own image, and possess intrinsic dignity and worth. Therefore, every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Gen 1:27-30, Mark 12: 28-31, Luke 6:31)

SIN
We believe that sin has broken every part of creation, leaving the world in desperate need of salvation. (Gen. 3, Rom. 3:9–20, Eph. 2:1–3)

SALVATION
We believe salvation comes by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. True salvation includes repentance that results in forgiveness, renewal by the Spirit, and adoption as God’s children (1 John 1:9)

CHURCH
We believe the true Church consists of all believers united by the Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. (1 Cor 12:12-13, Eph 4:4-6)

GOSPEL
We believe that all believers are called to share the Gospel and make disciples of all nations (Matt 28: 19-20)

SECOND COMING
We believe Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly, to judge the living and the dead, to complete God’s eternal plan. (Rev 22:20)

MARRIAGE
We believe marriage is a lifelong, covenant union between one man and one woman, reflecting Christ’s love for His Church. (Gen 2:18-25; Matt 19:3-6; Eph 5:22-32)
